Recovering from the Soda Debacle

Mamavation MondayThis has been a recovery week. I think the statement most made in this house has been from my husband: “I just can’t believe how bad it was and so quickly!”

Of course, he was talking about my face. That sounds harsh. I mean the result of my soda binge and the toll it took on my complexion. It was bad, people, really bad. And that was just after three days of non-stop soda drinking.

Yes, I learned the error of my ways. But I think the KEY to my error can be summed up in three statements:

  1. Soda, while tasty, really isn’t full of good-for-you ingredients.
  2. If you’re going to have soda, you should at least balance it out with a glass or three of water.
  3. If it’s that week, and you know you’re going to be susceptible to the Siren call of soda, don’t let yourself or your husband purchase it.

My accomplishments this week:

  • No soda
  • Took a walk even on the mornings my head was bursting
  • Maintained my weight
  • Did some of my extended 2 week challenge

Goals for this coming week:

  • Actually do the full 2 week challenge workout for each corresponding day
  • Lose a pound or two
  • Take a nap

What are your goals this week?

Yes the Soda is harsh majorly on your body. I am actually able to have it in the house now and not sucumb to it. I have accidently swallowed it when picking up David’s drink but for the most part we keep it out of the house. Great Job on your goals this week and your ones for the upcoming week You can do it!!!!

  2. Leah Segedie says:

You cheated on me with soda? And what’s a nap?

  3. Krista Swank says:

    OOOH, soda! Evil!
Good for you for cutting it out. It’s actually kind of good that you had such an immediate and negative reaction to it.

Good luck on your goals this week – I know you’ve got this!

  4. Sarah says:

Good job not having soda this week! I notice my skin takes a turn for the worse when I have an affair with cookies!!!

  5. Pam Gordon says:

I pretty much gave up soda and now only have it occasionally. I seriously don’t miss it at all

  6. The weird thing about soda too is you can go months without it and the second you have a glass…or can…or bottle or …anyway, it makes you just want more!

My new go to drink is lemonade. Fresh squeezed and sweetened with just a teaspoon of brown sugar or Agave.

    • Cluttered Genius says:

Lemonade is rather tasty! I will have to remember that. And you’re right. There’s something highly addictive in those sodas!

  7. YAY – on staying away from soda. I have ben soda free for years. Whenever I try it now, it tastes like medicine – it is really not that good

    • Cluttered Genius says:

I got like that for a while. I went so long without one that when I tasted it, it was just strange!

  8. A nap would be nice. I think a lot of my complection is the junk I’ve been sneaking…like I don’t know I am doing it. I’m glad you touched on that because I think it just clicked for me. Thanks!

    • Cluttered Genius says:

I just let myself take one the other day. I need to let myself again sometime this week. We all deserve breaks!

  9. Resa says:

I have to admit, there are times that the call of an old-fashioned ginger ale calls my name and whispers sweet nothings with promises of tingly-tongued delight. However, I’ve learned from experience that it lies. Ohhhhh how it lies.

That said, you’ve got this. That’s so crazy how immediate your reaction was, but I guess it makes the consequence that much greater than the momentary perks of soda. You’ll rock this week!

  10. Pepper says:

Sometimes I think it’s good for us to go back to old habits, because then we really learn what some of the nasty things we eat does to our bodies. I bet this experience will just strengthen your battle against the soda!

    • Cluttered Genius says:

That’s a really good point. And yes, if nothing else, it reminded me of all the reasons I DON’T want to drink them in the first place!
