Feelin’ Frosty (A poem)

It’s that time of the month again when my friends and I link up to write some poetry focused on a central theme. For February, we narrowed it down to “Frosty.”

I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go with this poem. I could write about the weather — we went through some good snow and ice in the last couple of months. I could write about my attitude toward some people — but that just seemed negative and unnecessary.

Instead, I felt like just letting the words flow and seeing where they went. What resulted is the poem you find today!

Feelin’ Frosty

Frosty is as frosty does
But I hate being frosty and
that’s because
I prefer your warming touch
in the bed — at night a quick graze
it’s not much
Except that it’s you, my love
and together the two of us
fit like a glove.

Almost a decade of being with you
and every day basically feels
brand new.
Kids that are loud, broken toys, the dogs
All give me fodder to write
into posts on my blogs.

But one constant is your calming mood
to balance my crazy
and my general attitude.

Frosty I’ll basically never be
as long as your thousand degree self
is here with me.

So, a poem about my husband. Once upon a time, I wrote poetry out of angst. It was dang good poetry that I’ve never fully been able to find again. What I’ve discovered about myself is that now I tend to write cuter kid-friendly poems. I’m guessing this is because I’m surrounded by kids and comfortable with that type of talk and writing.

I’m not asking for angst, that’s for sure. To be in a relationship with an adult who knows how to adult? Amazing. I wish it for everyone.

Now go read what my blogging buddies created for the Frosty theme:

A Valentine for Frosty” from Baking in a Tornado

Her Frosty Heart” from Cognitive Script

Frosty Toes” from Bergham Chronicles
