Rubbermaid FreshWorks (Review)

Rubbermaid FreshWorks (Review)

In this house, fresh fruit reigns supreme. My kids would rather eat grapes, strawberries, blueberries, apples, melons than any vegetable out there. This means we buy a lot of fresh fruits and use them up relatively quickly. Sometimes, the store has a particular fruit on special, and we’ll buy something on BOGO. Too often, we fail to finish the second portion of the fruit, and that fruit goes bad quickly. With Rubbermaid FreshWorks produce savers, we have less waste and more yum.

What are they?

Rubbermaid FreshWorks produce savers offers a new way to store your fresh fruits and vegetables. Because strawberries are (deliciously) in season, we found that we used the produce savers more for strawberries than anything else.

What’s nice about FreshWorks is that there are three layers. The first layer offers a FreshVent Lid that regulates the flow of O2 and CO2 so that the produce remains “farm fresh.”

The second layer is the produce container itself. Made from BPA free and dishwasher safe material (thank you!), the size of the produce container varies. I was able to try out a small (2.5 Cups), medium (6.3 Cups) and large (17.3 Cups) container. The small container was perfect for a regular-size container of blueberries where the medium was perfect for a pint of strawberries.

The final layer of the FreshWorks containers is the CrispTray. The CrispTray keeps the produce away from the bottom of the plastic container by raising it up and allowing air to flow through. This eliminates the quick spoilage of traditional methods of storing produce.

Why use FreshWorks?

I can attest to the fact that our fresh produce stayed fresh longer and didn’t become “gooey” as quickly as using a bowl or other container in the fridge.

The trick is to not wash or cut any of the produce before placing in the FreshWorks containers.

I found that having these containers in the refrigerator also served as a helpful tool for organizing my fridge — something I need desperately!
