Kindling the Fire: My First Book Signing

Kindling the Fire: My First Book Signing

I am participating in the Blogging from A to Z  April Challenge. Today’s letter is K.

Last May, endemically I received the first copy of my children’s book. I was more than excited to have it in my hands. Somewhere around August, I threw a launch Twitter party and totally trended. It was awesome. But with a small baby at home (who nurses and wouldn’t participate with a bottle), getting out of the house to market my book was very difficult. He’s almost one *sniff* and being away from him is a little easier these days.

Today, our local library had a kids’ event and featured local authors who could sell and sign their books. I was invited to participate, and it was such an eye-opening experience.

I have no fear talking about myself or talking to strangers. Kids are an easy group to work with since I’ve been doing it all my life. But sitting there among other authors and hoping people would notice my book was a new experience.

I learned today that my display was pretty much on par with what others had. Maybe next time, I’ll have some pencils or stickers with my book information. Kids like to get free stuff.

I also learned that if I’m going to get real about getting my book in more people’s hands, I have to get out there and show it off.

Today’s event did a good job of kindling the fire of publishing and marketing for me. This has always been my dream, and I need to get off my rear and get out there.

If you’re new to the blog and wondering about my book, please be sure to give it a quick glance on Amazon. It’s a good story, and it’s Miss Sassy Pants approved. I even reviewed it myself. Check it out:

  1. Congratulations on your book and learning some first hand lessons about how to get it out there in people’s hands. Good stuff. Maria from “http://delightdirectedliving.blogspot.com/”
