Moments of Genius: Dr. Seussical Hair

rumblingly Moments of Genius: Dr. Seussical Hair

moments of genius

At the end of the school year, Miss Sassy Pants and her classmates presented portions of Seussical the Musical for the PTA meeting. Part of the instructions for her costume included a “crazy, mismatched” outfit and anything we wanted to do with her hair.

She loves to be crazy (there’s a little Punky Brewster in her), and she asked me to give her Pippy Longstocking-like braids. But, Miss Sassy Pants’s hair is so long and so heavy that I knew I wouldn’t be able to get her hair into only two braids and have them stick straight out (plus, no one would have been able to stand on either side of her!).

I chatted with my sister who actually had a great idea: pipe cleaners! So, I went online and found some instructions on using pipe cleaners to make pigtails like Pippy’s — but with a twist.

Here’s what we did.

First, I separated her hair into four pigtails. I figured this was a way to get a smaller amount of hair into sections since she has so much!

Then, we added in two pipe cleaners per pigtail. We had practiced with only one, and one just didn’t match the strength of her hair. Two worked better.

I braided the pipe cleaners into each braid (2 sections of the braid had pipe cleaners, one section did not).

Then, I used a bow to secure each braid into a funky circle.

Here is the result:

Not quite “Seuss” but definitely crazy and funky.

She was really pleased with her hair, and it was fun to see what the other little girls (and even some boys) did to their mops!

What’s something you could share from YOUR blog this week? Link it up in the comments! I love reading others’ moments of genius!
