Smash Cakes, DIY Parties, and More
I am participating in the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge. Today’s letter is S.
BabyFlash is turning 1. I’m not entirely sure how that happened. I mean, I do know how that happened, but you totally get what I mean. Time is going way too quickly!
He is totally in to cars and all things “zoom zoom,” so we threw him a race car party. I was inspired by much of what I found on Pinterest, and I decided I could do some things myself!
I started with his cake, and I wanted to have a smash-able cake. Smash cakes are adorable, and I’m totally down with this new craze. I’m determined to get my photography skills honed. For this, I just used a simple vanilla cake (I found an organic mix at Aldi — score!) and made cream cheese icing that I found by Martha Stewart. With just a little bit of red, white, and green sprinkles (which probably negated the organic mix), we had a pretty successful and cute cake that he was going to smash anyway. He approved:
For the decorations, I knew I wanted some sort of center piece. I looked up stop lights to see what they needed to look like, and I knew I needed to have supplies here in the house. Lady Luck was my friend with a trash bag, some construction paper, scissors, a box from a recent Amazon order, and some shipping tape:
Then, I used the ideas from Pinterest to make signs (with the help of Miss Sassy Pants), and everyone loved what we labeled. I think “Motor Oil” got the most comments.
