Thankful: My tribes

Nkhotakota Thankful: My tribes

As I’ve grown older, I have begun to understand the importance of having a tribe. Luckily, I have several.

My first tribe formed out of our association with the National Writing Project. A few women and I have been in touch online and in person for almost ten years — amazing! We are all teachers in some way, shape, or form, and we are like-minded. It’s wonderful to have a spot where I can spew education-based or family-based or really anything-based questions without worry of being judged. These ladies have my back.

Every now and again, we find a moment in time to stop all the work and just be together. I love these days or weekends. This last time, we chose to bring our children along. Our conversations were more stop-start than in-depth, but to see my tribe in person was wonderful.

Another tribe that I love is my Blogging with Friends tribe. Started by my friend over at Baking in a Tornado, this group works together monthly to put together a sharing fest based on a particular theme. Last time, we focused on family. I love this tribe because we are all so different and bring such various talents to the table. We aren’t necessarily close, but we love to create and share!

I love my Simply Aroma tribe. There are some mini-tribes within the larger company tribe, but I am pumped to say I’m part of this group. I’ve been with Simply Aroma since it launched in January 2014 (has it already been 2 years!?), and there are friendships I’ve created in this area of my life that will be forever friendships. We have a common purpose and have been blessed to be part of a ground floor opportunity!

Last year, Math Man and I joined a new church, and we are in love with our Sunday School class. By in love, I mean we feel like we finally found a group of people with whom we can fellowship and have our spiritual bucket filled. Conversations in class are exciting. We get serious. We laugh. We just gel in a way that I wasn’t sure we were going to be able to find for ourselves. And while Math Man and I have had some trouble attending lately due to nap schedules, our class is still engaging us!

Today, in fact, several of the members of that Sunday School class helped put together a shower for a baby on the way. I love that we were able to be together like this! Earlier this year, we sponsored a chicken dinner and had amazing results to raise money for our community work.
