Tristan & Iseult: Reader's Theater

Cholpon-Ata Teaching high school English means getting to delve into literature from all over the world. One of my favorite stories to teach was that of the forbidden lovers, Tristan and Iseult (or Isolde).

Before the James Franco movie came out, it was difficult to find teaching materials on this story. What does a teacher do when there is little to no material out there to help? She makes her own.

I researched the story of Tristan and Iseult and wrote my own “play” about them. My students used this Tristan and Iseult Readers Theater to learn the background information, and then we read Marie de France’s Chevrefoil.

The students love the story as they are used to hearing and reading about “forbidden love.”

Enjoy!
